Gershman Mortgage, a nationally recognized mortgage lender, recently announced the recipient of the Albert J. Will Jr. Scholarship.  The scholarship is in memory of longtime President, Al Will, whose tenure with Gershman Mortgage started in 1962 and lasted 56 years.  He served as President for the last 20 years until his retirement in September 2018.

Devon Wrenn attends Missouri State University and will obtain her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in May 2021.  She will receive $5,000 from Gershman Mortgage towards tuition.  “Gershman Mortgage is proud to offer this scholarship as a way of honoring Al and giving back to our community and the families of our employees,” said Gershman Mortgage President, Adam Mason.

Mr. Mason went on to say that “Devon was chosen from a large number of exceptional applicants.  We commend Devon on her academic achievements, extracurricular activities, determination, hard work, and vision for her future.  She will be a wonderful addition to the healthcare industry, and we wish Devon continued success and good luck as she pursues her future educational and career goals.

To be eligible, the recipient must be a legal child (under the age of 26) to a current, full-time Gershman Mortgage employee and enrolling in junior college, college, trade school, or graduate school with a demonstrated record of outstanding qualities in character, integrity, and leadership.

Gershman Mortgage Record Breaking Month April 2020

Gershman Mortgage, a leader in the mortgage industry, celebrates another successful month in April of 2020 by breaking the record for number of loans closed in a single month.

Previously on April 2nd 2020, our President, Adam Mason announced that we had set a company record in our 65 years of business.

“I am happy to report historic news. We set a company record in March of 2020. Previously our company record was in September of 2019. We have been in business for 65 years and we absolutely smashed our record that we set in September this past month. This is phenomenal during any time but especially during this global pandemic. Not only did we close an astronomical amount of loans, and provide tremendous customer service throughout, we did it during the COVID-19 pandemic and with much stress added on all of us. We made it through with historic volume, and last month is just proof that we will make it through and be brighter and better on the other side.”

On May 7th 2020, President Adam Mason announced that we had broken the company record yet again.

“This will be the fourth time in nine months that I have announced a new company record. In Gershman Mortgage’s 65 year history, I am happy to announce that April 2020 is our new company record. This absolutely crushes our previous record that we set just last month in March. Great work by everybody, I’m so proud to lead this company and I’m looking forward to getting back together so we can celebrate these accomplishments we’ve had during this tough time. We’re not only surviving, we are excelling.”

The results are based on survey completion rates, the number of reviews, and the star ratings submitted to the SocialSurvey platform by verified customers. Over one million reviews of 30,000 individual loan officers from over 200 companies were scored by SocialSurvey, by far the largest data set in the mortgage industry.

Poropat achieved an average rating of 4.95 stars out of five and 127 completed verified reviews in 2019.  Langley achieved an average rating of 4.91 stars out of five and 185 completed verified reviews in 2019.

How to Sell a Home with Dealbreakers

You want to sell your home, but you’re afraid that issues like the noisy neighbors or nearby highway might turn away potential buyers. Small problems like less desirable paint colors or outdated appliances can be fixed easily, but specific features like tiny yards or a lack of windows can be a complete turn off to buyers who would otherwise be interested in your house. Here are some tips on how to highlight the positives of common inconveniences that might be considered “dealbreakers”.

Is your home in a high traffic area? Maybe it’s impossible to leave your home during rush hour, or you can hear cars passing by at all hours of the day. These inconveniences can turn off buyers who rely on commuting or need peace and quiet, but a growing population now work from home and many people don’t mind being surrounded by activity. Try appealing to buyers by staging a workspace in your home, or converting the guest bedroom into a home office. Consider adding a fence in the backyard to offer privacy from a busy highway, and cover window views of the road with curtains or shades that match your décor.

Are your neighbors hard to handle? Your home might be next to people who won’t mind their own business or mow their grass, or your neighbors are peacefully resting in the cemetery that occupied the plot of land before your home was built. While you can’t choose your neighbors, you can hide them with landscaping. Keep potential buyers distracted with hedges, trees, bushes, and backyard oases that keep the view away from eyesores. Choose plants that thrive in certain seasons and some that look good all year long.  Choosing to work with a nursery or landscaping professional is a small investment, but prospective buyers will notice your yard before they notice what’s around it.

What if your home doesn’t have an open floorplan or a lot of natural light? HGTV channel aside, buyers love lots of windows and space. If your home is lacking these features, there are creative ways to compensate. Brighten your home by opting for light, white painted walls and change out dark curtains and blinds that eliminate the natural light you have to work with. Add tasteful lamps that cut shadows and dark spaces and switch out yellow toned lightbulbs to bright white. Need more space? Rearranging your furniture can be highly effective in making a room look larger. Remove excess décor, and consider using area rugs to define spaces and creative storage solutions to control clutter. Keep your eye moving around the room with a few larger scale statement pieces like artwork or furniture, and avoid too many little details or decorations.

The Saint Louis Business Journal named 75 finalists from the Saint Louis area for the annual competition. Gershman Mortgage achieved finalist recognition as one of 15 companies in the large company category, which includes companies with 100 to 249 employees.

The finalists were nominated by Saint Louis area employees asked to complete an employee engagement survey. They survey provided employees an opportunity to provide honest feedback about company culture, engagement, leadership, work experience, and several other factors. Quantum Workplace, an independent engagement company, administered the survey and tabulated the results on behalf of the Saint Louis Business Journal. Employee identity was kept confidential.
